Appalachian & the Community Together (ACT)
Appalachian State University's clearinghouse for community service, service-learning, and community-based research opportunities within the N.C. High Country area, as well as across the state, nation, and world. ACT maintains an extensive database that can connect the needs of non-profit agencies with faculty and student volunteers.

ASU Public School Partnership
Interested in working with local public schools?  Formally established in 1987, the Appalachian State University Public School Partnership is a collaboration between Appalachian State University, numerous local educational agencies in Northwestern North Carolina, and special programs like Upward Bound and GEAR UP.

ORAU
ORAU (Oak Ridge Associated Universities) is a university consortium leveraging the scientific strength of 109 member institutions in 31 states to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, including Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), government agencies, and private industry. Appalachian State University is an associate member of ORAU. ORAU core competencies are in the fields of radiation emergency response and operational readiness; environmental health, analysis and communication; forensic analysis; science workforce development and evaluation; and, technical training. Opportunities for Academic Fellowships and Scholarships, Research Experiences, Sabbaticals, and Internships available through programs at the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education and Oak Ridge Associated Universities are available here: http://see.orau.org/. UCAR

The UCAR (University Corporation for Atmospheric Research) is a consortium of more than 100 member colleges and universities focused on research and training in the atmospheric and related Earth system sciences. Members set directions and priorities for the National Center for Atmospheric Research, which UCAR manages with sponsorship by the National Science Foundation. Through the community programs, UCAR supports and extends the capabilities of our academic consortium.

Core Laboratory Research Facilities in NC

This site, maintained by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, provides basic links to core laboratory facilities in North Carolina that support research in the life sciences and other biotechnology-related fields of study. These core facilities are located at university, non-profit and commercial research institutions across the state.

North Carolina Center for Engineering Technologies
The North Carolina Center for Engineering Technologies provides facilities for applied research in engineering related fields and serves as a conduit to baccalaureate education delivered by the University of North Carolina system schools.

North Carolina Research Campus
The North Carolina Research Campus is a private-public venture created to foster collaboration and further advancements in the fields of biotechnology, nutrition and health. On-campus universities include Duke University, UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina A&T State University, Appalachian State University and UNC Greensboro.
