STEAM Expo Held at Holmes Convocation Center

This year more than 2,800 students, teachers, and chaperones from 29 public schools in Western NC attended the STEAM Expo. The Expo is a science open house and multidisciplinary science event designed to get students excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics.  The event took place in the Holmes Convocation Center where there were more than 40 booths and hands-on activities representing over 20 academic departments including astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, health sciences, physics, and psychology.

Participants had various activities to choose from including 10 science demo shows in the Plemmons Student Union, 9 tours of research facilities, "solar-gazing" events at the Rankin Observatory, as well as 15 different solar powered activities set-up on our Sanford Mall by the App State Solar Club student members.  Appalachian students majoring in Sustainability also volunteered their time by helping visitors make this a zero waste event by setting up compost bins, recycle bins, and landfills bins.
